The Lumen Peel™ Technique
An artistic technique and a metaphor for truth beneath the layers.
Lumen means light. It’s the soft, persistent glow that finds its way through cracks, calling us to notice what was always there beneath the surface.
The Lumen Peel was born from my desire to express the truth of our humanity. It represents the stories, emotions, and layers that make us who we are.
Using torn paper and modeling paste, I sculpt the illusion of peeled layers, as if the canvas itself is shedding its skin. What appears to be pulled back is, in truth, a creation of depth and light, and a reminder that even illusion can reveal something true.
The technique mirrors what I believe about human connection: Beauty deepens as we uncover what’s real. The gold and light that often appear in my work symbolize illumination when we truly see ourselves, each other and what’s possible.
For me, this process is symbolic. It reflects the human journey of uncovering ourselves as we find the courage to expose what lies beneath, the tenderness of being seen, and the light that emerges when we do.
The Lumen Peel is both art and metaphor:
a visual language for becoming whole again.
